Before I switched over to all CDs, I had a record collection that was mostly accumulated in junior high, high school, and college. These records saw lots of rough usage from partying and what-not. Some of them had very loud pops in certain parts of the recording. When I replaced such LPs with CDs, I had a habit of flinching at points in the CD playback where the pops were in the original damaged LP.
This effect lasted for about 15 years.
I still have my old CDs, but I ripped them all, so they're in storage. I still buy CDs, but only to rip them and put them away in case I need them for backup.
