I watch the Grammys every year, more out of long habit than actual enthusiasm. It's a long slog for a few high points.
For me, one high point was the first performance (after the big Havana number), where Kacey sang a ballad from her album Golden Hour. Then, in a big upset, the show ended with that album getting Record of the Year.
Although she is classified as country, this album reminds me more of 70s singer/songwriter stuff, say Jackson Browne. It's just very listenable, and I've played it dozens of times after getting interested from the many positive reviews.
However, Grammys is as much about commerce as art, and this type of music does not fit on country radio or on pop radio. So other albums in the running that have been heavily played, like Cardi B and Drake, would be, I thought, very likely to win. But the underdog won, and a personal favorite album of mine happened to win the big award. Which was a nice surprise.
