Unless you made it clear to the initial party that you intended to keep his deposit regardless of what transpired (or didn't), I think you don't have any right to keep it. It's a hundred bucks for which you did almost nothing, he didn't get anything for it, and you sold the item anyway without any loss compared to the abandoned sale.
