Streaming to hearing aid

Just got an opticon hearing aid set. My iPhone streams to it, but to get my Mac to work with it I have to buy a $300 attachment and a dongle. I would like to listen to my home music (iTunes) from my hard drive
I see streamers online for $50 and wonder if I can work around Opticon's nefarious scheme? Or should I just wear headphones?
