RE: Mac tuners

The 77 is a good tuner. I had one for years after a repair guy ruined my MR-71 by "cleaning up" the glass after agreeing not to touch it, with the result that he wiped all the writing off the dial, and couldn't source a replacement glass. He's still in business, by the way, "specializing" in McIntosh. After this blunder, he offered me the MR-77, which I accepted.

But after having the MR-71, it was a whole 'nuther world, and not in a good way. The RF section of the 77 and later, however, is excellent. I kept it for years, then got another Modaferri-modded 71, and realized what I was missing.

The audio sections of the 67 and 71 are superb, and a good MR-71 sounds lots like the 10-B, with the 67 not far behind.

So if you like the MR-77, enjoy it. (It *is* a good tuner for DX-ing if you have a yagi on the roof with a rotor.) But this is almost a history lesson, as it seems that FM is not long for this world.

Cheers,
WW
