reading down further, he used level equalizing and a Van Alstine switcher, so it's just being honest. He states EQ options help improve the Denon's sound, so it is better sounding.

I own an older Denon, next level or two, and use it to pass thru my phono setup. It's silent in that application. And I am using it's power amp, again pretty nice. A compromise, but such is life.
