RE: Stereo in wood shop

The amp/receiver does not need to be enclosed, but only covered with a couple inches open on top for circulation. When it's on, the air is usually pushing up and out. Mine has been sitting open for almost ten years, collecting dust, never had a problem, but I would do better than that if starting over. I do put the shop vac on it once in a while to get the really thick stuff off the top. Class D amps don't need as much cooling, so they have fewer, smaller, or no openings. Older stuff tends to have big open screens. Tubes are out, for sure.

CD can be in another room or set well off to an area with less dust, or you can use a source without moving parts/laser. I have my main system preamp feeding the basement workshop inputs, so the same sources play down there as upstairs. I use my CD changer when I'm in a project, better single player for short trips, tuner for Badger/Packer games (what a weekend!).

Speakers are gonna get dusty, but it doesn't really matter much. If you do vacuum them, avoid tweeter domes! Very lightly use a fine bristle brush there. Think about making your first project building a pair.

Peace,
Tom E
