RE: you got your wish ...

Hello, If you are looking for Slam, Prat, and Tone Accuracy then I would say for speakers that Hales Revelation 3, Hales Transcendence 3, 5, or 8s would be your ticket. The Hales possess the deepest most articulate/tight bass of any speaker that I have heard. They also were designed with a flat frequency response, which makes them sound neutral and non-fatiguing (I listen to my Hales Revelation 3's for hours with no ear fatigue). Since they have a flat frequency response the sound is "seamless" from the low end to the high end. Paul Hales design methodology was to get the timbre or tone of the speakers right and he was able to do this in spades. The only problem with going this route is that Hales Design Group are no longer in business, so getting replacement drivers may be difficult (but it would be a cheaper way to go versus the some of the other speakers you mentioned.)

The Hales speakers are a sealed box design; therefore, the bass is very articulate and they go down to 25-28 Hz depending on the model. With this level of response you really do not need to add a subwoofer; however, with the addition of a Bag End Infrasub 18 subwoofer mated with the Hales speakers makes for one awesome combination. The Bag End is one of the most "musical" subs I have heard and fills the bottom end with a fine foundation.

Concerning Maggies and Wilson speakers. Maggies tend to get "twangy" at high volumes and I never felt they got the timbre quite right. As far as Wilsons, if you like your music to sound hard and mechanical and non-engaging then this might be the speaker for you. :) I haven't heard a Wilson speaker that I liked.

For Amps I would look at a Belles 350A Reference amp (the Pass Amps in the past that I have heard were a bit reticent in the bass area). The Belles would deliver ample amounts of bass slam. Other amps that I would look at are Audio Research, Cary, McCormack.

For Preamp either Audio Research, Belles, Cary, McCormack.

Last but not least is Power Cords....the best upgrade to my system has been the addition of DCCA power cords. Compared to other power cords I have used (Shunyata, Acoustic Zen, PS Audio, etc.), the DCCA cords seem to convey the emotion of the music like no other power cord I have tried. They also have a very holographic 3D-like soundstage.

Hope this helps in your search. I listen to mostly progressive rock with some electronic music and female jazz singers and my System simply rocks.
