Actually, I just voiced a system in MN, that had plantation shutters.
This is the second system I've done with plantation shutters at or behind the speakers.
The first had them intalled vertically, along the sides of the room. We were able to play with angles and openness and get the best sound.
But last weekend, it was either slats fully closed pointing up or down. The area was behind the speakers.
I was surprised to hear that slats down was noticeably better.
But that was this room - don't know about others. And in both cases, the slats were wood, not plastic.
In the latter case, I actually preferred it to lots of acoustic panels the client had built to to cover them.
