wire xfer, etc.

Wire transfer is great, especially for big ticket items. Actually I prefer it, despite a bit of paperwork (more if you're sending money than receiving it.)

With PayPal, there is a certain amount of seller protection built in, especially if the buyer claims the item wasn't received/delivered. But in that case, the seller is protected ONLY if the item is shipped to the buyer's "confirmed" PayPal address.

I've never had problems buying or selling overseas; not even to Italy ;--) I've found USPS International Express Mail to be both reliable and cost saving -- Priority Mail is good too, but takes longer increasing the risk of loss. But a lot depends on which foreign country the item is going to or coming from. For instance, I've found DHL to be one of the best carriers for Chinese shipment.

In any case, the buyer(?) I mentioned above played his hand when he asked me for my Amex card numbers. Forget the obvious attempt to get my CC info. First of all, he had no way of knowing if I even HAD an Amex card. And second, he asked to put money on MY card. I was pretty sure I'd never heard of anything like that, but just for the hell of it, I called American Express. After I explained the situation, the woman at Amex was laughing so hard (over the obvious fraud) that she could hardly talk!
