I have a similar story but don't remember if I had told it in here or not.
My daughter and I were attending the SLSO concert featuring William Warfield as the narrator of the Lincoln Portrait. I had been telling her of his life in the field of music including his final scene in Showboat.
As we approached the hall a limo pulled up to the curb and an older man tried to get out and I offered him a hand and helped him up to the curb; it was Mr. Warfield. I introduced myself and my daughter. He walked with us to the stage door and was very friendly to my daughter and thanked us for our help. An unforgettable moment in time
