I totally agree. The ad fee should be covered up front, and further, the actual amount of the fee should be tied to the asking price of the item. That is just as fair as it can be. The seller of a high priced item can afford a higher "cost of doing business" for their ad, while someone wanting to unload some old Monster or AQ cables for 10 bucks a pop shouldn't have to pay more than 2 bucks for the ad -- since they may only sell one; or none!
Consignment selling has too many responsibilities attached to it, and would be very risky for the consignee if (for one thing) they never actually see the item they are representing in the flesh (Rod could be travelling all over the country!) Not enough profit in it for all the communication involved plus the shipping, handling, and insuring. Even the Auction feature on Audiogon is obviously very time consuming for the Audiogon staff, and I'm surprised they continue with it -- I just don't see where the profit comes out.
