General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

I had a thought about a technique for publicizing the Classifieds as well

bdgregory,

I believe that a good, graphic design and features lacking and/or recently deleted on Audiogon- e.g., the listing pages no longer show the category of the gear offered, might go a long way to creating the impression of a serious, fully- featured, use-friendly site. Without the category displayed, a person has to know the model number of everything ever made. It's no good to see a listing- "REL Precedent in immaculate condition" if I don't know if it's an turntable, tuner, or amplifier - and having therefore to look up everything.

It's a good point about increasing viewer numbers and I had a couple of ideas to increase exposure:

1. If it's permitted, make listings on Ebay and other sites that are titled semi-generically with a lot of keywords that cause the listing to appear in every audiophile equipment search, "Audio Research, B.A.T., BelCanto, Boulder Conrad-Johnson, EICO, Fisher, McIntosh, Oracle Scott, Wharfdale, Amperex, RCA: Preamplifiers, Amplifers, Speakers, Cables : New, Used, NOS, Vintage, and etc." and the listing offers an Audio Asylum T-shirt or something and then goes on to advertise the Classifieds and the various forums. "Come for the friendly forums' advice, and stay for the Classifieds."

2. A political group opposed to Rick Santorum's pronouncements on gays, caused the word "Santorum" to appear first on Google as "Santorum 1. The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. 2. Senator Rick Santorum." So, if every registered Inmate (10,000?) were to Google a few times "Asylum Trader" and including all the keywords in the imagined Ebay listings above, the Site might appear at the top of the list.

Only guessing!

Cheers,

Bambi B
