Those speakers are very efficient and running them anywhere near the receiver's power rating would have been very loud. I don't see this as a case of over-driving the receiver. The DCM KX-12's are a 4-ohm speaker. Is your receiver rated for 4-ohm speaker loads? Also, does your receiver have a "loudness" control? If so, is it still on or if it's the variable type is it at the same level as before. Lastly, is there a way for you to borrow another receiver and see if the speakers play as before?
