RE: What are your fondest audiophile memories?

In the early 70s, I had a bunch of audiophile buddies and a few dealers over.

We had an all-day shoot-out between Double KLH 9s, Tympani 1Bs, and Infinity Servo-Statik 1s, each of which was among the top speakers of that time.

Electronics were the latest from ARC - I think it was ARC Sp-3a preamp, ARC Dual 75A amps, ARC Dual 51 Amp (for SS-1 tweeters)

I had had the speakers for over a week prior to the shoot-out (I owned the Infinitys and Maggies), finding the best spot for each, and we moved them out of the room when not being used.

Turntables were TD-125 with Decca arm and Decca 5 cartridge, and SP-10 with SME and ADC-of-the-month cartridge.

15 IPS master tapes on my ReVox A77.

I'll never forget my wife being trapped in the bedroom one time because two sets of KLH 9s were against the door. :)

Amazingly we are still married...

My buddies still talk about that day.

Oh, the double KLH 9s won overall, but not by much.

Fun times.

Thanks for the reminder!

Best regards,

Jim Smith
