DUMP OUTSIDE AND WATER COOLER ! Let's pretend we live in a democracy and vote on it.

artemus,

Your thread is a very interesting one as this is the time I can't recall seeing you post other than on political topics on Outside and /or Water Cooler. In those places my memory is that you were as contentious and indulged in invective as often and as vigourously as anyone there. Yet here on General, you are rational and engaged in a discussion above on the priorities of perception.

This is not to be contentious and suggest irony, but I'd like the other inmates to notice this effect- removed from an environment of contention- and useless contention because attitudes only become more bitterly entrenched, you are instead making a positive contribution. All those hours artemus and you could've been doing this the whole time! > Which activity is more satisfying? Which effort makes this site seem friendlier?

On a personal level, I feel the wrangling on the political forums on this site make a very strong negative to the real purpose here. I don't know about others, but this forum something I do for pleasure- it's my one of my few reliefs from the shite spewed on television, the hyper-commercialism and advertising, the schtick, pose, and schmooze of business, and the persistent and continual bad news in print- apocolypse of the day. There waa a poster on Outside who must've made 100+ posts about the millions- I think the number eventually reached 150,000,000- who were to die from Bird flu. Why the fruckin heel do I have to get it here when the whole purpose is to have a moment's refuge from the energies of fear-mongering and commercialism coming through every possible medium? - Yes- escape !

And, it's no good saying, "If you've got such a thin skin, just don't look", because Outside and Water Cooler is that the animosity spills over into the other fora- tinear when posting in Films got a politically expressed dousing with personal comments from Outsiders with whom he has running battles. Our Aussie mate dave c- who has no stake in U.S. politics offers a fresh perspective and some sensible thinking, but becomes banned and I note a slightly bitter edge in his posts now- which seem less frequent and shorter.

This effect is now more noticeable on Music too. Morale is poor!

Doesn't anyone else see how destructive the political forums are? How this puts a damper- kills enthusiasm- on what could be friendships and meaningful communication- the whole frunckin reason we're here in the first place!?

On another level, I think this kind of contentiousness is bad for business. When there is bitterness and contention, that time is removed from discussing new and improved name-brand items. Morale is lowered and people leave, so fewer people see the advertising and advertising rates will drop. People leave, lessening contributions. And, knowing a person's political and religious beliefs can change your attitude about dealing them in business. Even LWR probably would hesitate a few minutes to buy mattresses from a prominent NAZI distributor or abortion doctor killer- the price would have to attractive. I know of an Evolution and climate change denier in the audio world, I have to say, I would hesitate a few minutes to buy something containing 650V done by someone who didn't believe in the validity of Science,..

I am happier not discussing politics with people I do business with and admit sometimes avoiding doing business with a company based on politics. I have a friend who uses Halliburton for natural gas drilling services and apparently they are fantastically good at it and there is no reasonable alternative, but he simultaneously feels is giving money directly to a company that is linked to Billions in contract profits from a war started by the former CEO and who moved those Billions to Abu Dahbi.. To some degree, my friend wishes he could use another firm, based on politics. You see my point: politics is bad for business- except for FOX Infoentertainopinion and blobby blogger pundits.

I strongly believe that an atmosphere of political and religious contention and personal insults has no positive value.

If there's to be insanity in the Asylum, let it be audio and art insanity. [Not necessarily an argument to bring back Clark Johnsen, George Louis, or DickTrebleTesticlesMaroon] I'll talk about new and improved name-brand audio products all day long, tell inmates about my favourite 12AT7's for the 250th time, rave about "Seven Samurai", Francis Bacon, Dinu Lipatti, and Glenn Gould, and spend two hundred more hours discussing Mahler's 5th. For cars, cats, cameras, squirrels and physics, work, wine, and watches- we'll have Central. And, I love to argue on matters of perception, and even on technical subjects , but these are clinical, critical activites, and not as likely to become personally contentious- (though clarkjohnsen, georgelouis, and RichardBassAndEtc drove me to the brink of using the invective I learned from a Hungarian Pianist,..).

But, I definitely have an overstock supply of Sarah Palin campaign ads, feces-flinging armchair TV and beer-snorked pundits making long diatribes about climate change, evolution, health care reform, socialism and communism, who clearly demonstrate borrowed attitudes in company with complete lack of knowledge or personal analysis of the subject. I can get all this from CNN and FOX, why do I have to have it when My thoughts turn to music and audio? Is there no escape?

Yes, this place is even called after a refuge from the outside world, ASYLUM !

Fellow inmates, make this site a friendly, positive, useful place again and permanently ban politics > >

DUMP OUTSIDE AND WATER COOLER!

> Otherwise, I predict many here will be looking for calmer waters for our precious time off. Everyone seems very nice at Audiokarma,..

Not that this is a democracy, but perhaps Czar RodBruce might take allow inmates to vote,..

Cheers,

Bambi B
