Problem is especially exacerbated in Home Theater (too close to the Computer Industry where a 2 year old receiver may be obsolete due to a single change in encoding or connectivity. There is just no time for the Rental Center to get a Return on Investment before it is obsolete).
In 2 channel, at least, my 1964 Scott is fully compatible with any current analog stereo setup. Not true in a music server or HT receiver.
I agree something like this would be great; the only way to truly gauge a component is to hear it in YOUR system in YOUR ROOM, unfortunately not practical in today's market where we have so much trouble getting dealers to buy the gear they stock!
