Nicholas Renter,
It's a difficult calculation, but I would say I'm deriving about 1% of the potential of my main system: Oracle III/ SME V / McIntosh MR67 > Audio Research SP10 > ARC D115 > Vandersteen 2C.
This calculation is based on:
1. Since 1987, this system has been in storage for a total of 8 years.
2. I'm in the office more than 16 hours per day, 7 days a week, listening to other gear, and currently am hearing the main system perhaps 5 hours per week.
3. I'm using 1985 Audioquest speaker cables- giant 8 conductor in a clear sheath. -This will change in the next few days as I get my new Audioquest Rocket 88 DBS cables in place.
Item number 2 is the main reason I calculate I'm having such a small benefit of the system's potential- I'm only using it 1% of my listening time! It's a pity too as I just changed all the tubes in the SP10 including 6- NOS Philips SQ 7308's and 6- NOS Tungsram 6922's- $XXX's in today's value..
I hope to improve this situation but at the moment I'm listening to BBC3 through a $115 Logitech Z-2300 2.1 computer system from a 1995 Audiowerk2 soundcard.
