Only 3-4 Hours: and I heard on CNN that early death and subsequent irritability may result,..

bullethead,

I was never someone who slept long hours. In my life I've probably not slept past 8:30 more than a dozen times regardless of when I went to bed.

In architecture school my regular pattern was to go to bed at 3AM and get up at 8 and these days- the last 10-12 years especially I usually go to sleep about 1-2AM and get up at 4-6AM- 3- 4 hours is all I can manage.

My physical effort varies considerably from almost nothing- quiet days at the drawing board to rushing about in Los Angeles traffic going to the building department, job sites, client meetings, and the inevitable shopping and getting things fixed (this weekend there will be a Lincoln MK VIII air suspension diagnostic festival), but my sleep pattern does not vary with exertion.

I do sleep up to 6 hours about once per month, but the 3-4 hours is the usual. After hearing warnings about long-term effects of sleep deprivation- early death and subsequent irritability, I've thought of consulting a sleep specialist- I met one at at a car show recently- but my impression is that making a reasonable go st the problem with a professional would cost $3-4,000. As I don't seem to suffering ill effects- I'm going to continue my experiments with diet- no sugar or processed foods, coffee drinking- 4 cups of 50% decaf cappuccino not after 4PM, and so on, I'm hoping to improve on my own.

Cheers,

Bambi B
