Where to donate large CD and DVD collection?

I need ideas for a friend, a collector of CD and music DVDs, who wants to dispose of his large CD and music DVD collection. The recipient organization needs to be a legitimate non-profit so he could collect a tax write-off.

His collection is 1800 to 2000 CDs, 300 to 500 DVDs, almost all in case logic binders, includes the liner notes and covers; those not in case logic binders are brand new and still in shrink wrap; 99% are mint condition; some are rare (e.g., two copies of the Yardbirds very last concert); includes 300+ Jimi Hendrix, other classic rock, modern rock, jazz, new age, and blues.

He spent so much time, effort and money collecting these that he wants it to go to an organization that would really treasure them. I told him you guys would help me find a few candidates for him!

I know it will be hard to resist the jokes regarding your own personal tax-exempt family music historical society -- but please try! This is a real bona-fide request for information.
