My install 3 years ago sounds very similar to Ted's (see his post). I'm sure that with the rampant materials inflation we've had, the cost difference between 10ga and 12ga stranded THHN is greater now then it was at that time of my dedicated lines installation.
Why use 10 gauge wiring? I did lots of searching on both AA and Audiogon and found a reasonable number of people who advocated it, especially when one is using high power amps. So I did it.
Does the 10 gauge provide a sonic difference over 12 gauge? I don't know since I've not been able to directly compare the two in dedicated homerun lines. (I originally had 12 gauge non-dedicated lines providing power to my system).
I do know that when I went from non-dedicated 12 gauge lines to 10 gauge dedicated lines with audiophile outlets, the sonic improvement was easy to hear. Even my non-audiophile electrician heard it (we played the system before and after).
