If you have any other equipment on the same line as your digital, you're getting digital "junk" back into it if you don't use a good filter to keep it out. Borrow a Hydra from someone and find out. You don't really know what it sounds like until its missing -- I didn't.

I agree with you that same phase is best to prevent possible ground hum, but that's why I recommended a different phase for digital IF he wasn't going to use a good filter to keep the digital junk out of the other equipment.

In my experience (YMMV), I've never had a ground loop problem, same phase or not, but I have experienced the digital junk problem.
