Isn't there a contradiction in there somewhere?

You say you "don't think what's happening in the mastering stage of the commercial CD is the cause of all the consternation regarding the sound of CDs". Yet you then offer examples of well mastered and produced CDs that sound great.

I actually wholeheartedly agree with Kerr. Many CDs, particularly at the beginning, were made without the knowledge we have now. All digital media have benefited from this, including CD, which in the right hands sounds better than ever before.
