I have lots of experience with the digital formats you are referring to. They offer great potential if the recording is well made. But frankly I think good sound depends much more on how a recording was made and how the loudspeaker/room system is set-up than on the word length or the sampling rate. I am pretty sure in a good system you would have a hard time telling apart redbook from 24/96 on certain recordings. You will probably disagree, and unfortunately I will never be able to prove this to you. I am not in a position to invite you to listen to my system for the time being.

But for me that is the reality.

Vinyl I find useful as an archival tool, but I'm too tuned into it's noise patterns to really enjoy it much.
