Since you're getting in late you may not have read all the posts.

50 years ago the telephone, recording and braodcast industries acknoledged the issues of cable differences. In fact the problem was profound for them. Try sending a signal down 3000 miles of single ended interconnect and see what emerges from the other end!

So the low impedance balanced line system was developed. It made trans- and intercontenental phone calls possible.

In the face of this it is a simple fact that interconnects do make a difference. I stick to balanced operation to reduce the effects that would otherwise result.

Essentially Peter ignored results that have been known for over 1/2 a century. Its actually audiophiles who were late getting on board with cable issues, having only began to deal with it in the late 70s (Fulton Music Industries being essentially the creator of the modern high end cable industry by then introducing the first 'audiophile' cables).

The audiophile solution has been to throw dollars at the problem. Is there some snake oil there? Sure. Is the problem real? Obviously. The professional industry developed a differnt solution 50 years ago. A lot of 'audio engineers' fail to realize this as its been the world they grew up in...
