Re: Peter Aczel's biggest "lies" ...

"1) Fat guage (sic) cables really do work better than smaller guage cables and coaxial cables are much better than a twisted pair, no matter the guage."

What size are you referring to? If they are too big you start having capacitance issues. The point is a decent cable is good enough and the rest is BS.

"2) The assumed vacuum tube "lie" may have some added validity when you talk to performance musicians who use both solid state and tube amps ... to achieve different sound effects, sometimes switching amp types back and forth between songs because they and their audience can hear and feel the difference. Even I have heard this."

Don't understand your point. These "effects" are essentially distortion.

" In the listening tests, anyone can prove to themselves that there is definately listening room feed back between the speaker and the vinyl...none in the case of the CD playback ... ""

Aczel never said vinyl was sonically indistinguishable from CD. No one in his right mind would say that.

" there is a whole area of physics research that deals with the observer becoming a part of the experiment = Schrodinger's Cat and all that."

Ha, ha. You are confusing quantum mechanics with plain old human subjectivism!

"apparently Mr. Aczel does not know about phase shifting in wave inversion is not necessarily a good thing ... and less negative feedback IS better"

In DBT people cannot distinguish amplifiers even at relatively high feedback levels. ceteris paribus.

"there is very definately a burn in, a "change over time" of solid state devices and in audio devices specifically."

Again no DBT evidence to support this. Quite the contrary. The "burn in" is probably in our minds. Or if it exists it is negligible. Warm up is a different thing.

"Consider solder joints ... which change over time, either increasing in resistance or decreasing ... depending on the length of time of the initial burn in. "

How much do propoerly soledred joints change? Come on.

"two cables and connections = less resistance = the equal of fatter cables ... double connections do work better than singles = doubly reliable. "

What's stupid is your belief that lower resistance is a panacea. You clearly have no understanding of what Aczel is saying!

"power conditioning is always a good thing and usually essential. "

Not always, but frequently it is.

"peanut butter... is a good excuse for having a CD / DVD cleaning disk and kit "

Just wipe it with a damp cloth. Or have you dog lick it. Ha, ha.

"I'm sixty one years old ... my young wife"

Now you've finally earned my respect. Way to go...

Aczel is not 100% right but he is about 90% right. In fact if audiophiles only came in two molds: Aczel and Harry Pearson, I'd definitely be an Aczel!

But as with most extremists his lack of flexibility dooms his views.
