Yeah, maybe $30-50k isn't average, but it depends on where you live

In my neck of the woods (Boston area) you could build an addition for $50k about 10 years ago, but not anymore unless it's small and you can do all the finish work yourself. Based on the recent experiences of friends, family, and coworkers, my guess is that home remodeling projects cost quite a bit more here than where you live.

The contracters around here aren't almost at capacity, they're pretty much ALL over capacity and have been so for over 5 years now. Unless you are connected in some way to the home construction business, you practically have to kiss the contractors' feet to get work done.
