I sold my $1000 21" CRT for $25. I did good.

I had a pristine condition Silicon Graphics (SGI) 21" CRT (a Sony Trinitron, actually). The thing weighs a ton and is still in excellent condition with crisp bright screen. I sold it last week for $25 in my first ever garage sale. I was glad to get rid of it. My new rule - no more CRT purchases. BTW, Silicon Graphics (SGI), the company, was a Wall Street darling in the 1990's. They are bankrupt today and for all practical purposes, out of business.

As for power cords, or cables in general, I believe most are way over priced. Sure there are some legit cable makers who really do spend money on R&D but most are glorified garage shops and most do not have their own "wire braiding machines". Cables are probably the easiest audio related business to start-up. Buy some fancy wire, fat cool looking sleeve / jacket, then terminate the ends and charge up the wazoo to unsuspecting audiophools.

And you're right about "digital" audio components, like DACs. Those seem to take the biggest depreciation hit. All one has to do is look on Audiogon to see $6000 DAC's from a few years back selling for $1000 to $2000. In many cases, the current state-of-the-art in "digital" IS better AND less expensive than pieces from only 3 or 4 years ago. So stay away from those mega buck digital components unless you have money to burn.
