Re: $100k for a kitchen

Is a little steep not in anyway the average cost to redo a kitchen - considering the average home cost around $250k. We just did our kitchen with similiar level appliances, granite counter tops, Hard wood floor, etc and spent about $18k - it ain't Donald Trump's place but it's pretty darn nice. You can build an addition on your house for $50k, much less an updated kitchen in most locations. (Now you need to know how to bid out the job and select contractors correctly and understand the common practices of the industry, like recognizing when a contractor is over bidding the job. For instance, a contractor who is busy and almost at capacity with begin over bidding jobs - this is pretty common. If you know how to bid out a job, then you ain't spending $100k on a kitchen remodel)

You are correct regarding the appliances, if you want restuarant quality high end appliances, then you have to spend a lot more $$. However in relative terms for the vast majority of Americans, the best you can buy at the big box stores does constitute "top of the line".

In concrete terms, you are correct and you can spend $10k on a fridge if you want to.
