I'll assume you are as picky about your sound system as you are about the software you prefer.I'm sure you found great value for your money, especially that Salvation Army find.
The assumption that spending more money gets better sound quality has been found incorrect by almost all audiophiles who have experimented with listening while the brand names were hidden.
The primary components responsible for overall sound quality are the speakers and the room -- these always sound different. Cartridges too for vinylphiles.
Beyond those components the audible differences have tended to be small or not even audible when the brand names are hidden. When brand names are known the differences are always heard and rarely small. I leave it to individual audiophiles to determine whether knowing the brand names adds value to an audition.
