I've done a lot of experimenting with this in my second system, in which I'm using a 50" plasma with speakers flanking the set. As long as the drivers are sufficiently beyond the front plane of the TV, I believe you'll be fine. I experimented with and without the TV between the speakers, and, as I said, as long as the drivers were ahead of the plane of the TV, everything worked great. IME, same thing applies to a rack positioned between speakers.
