Picture the speaker fronts as openings in an ocean wall. The water waves coming out are similar to the sound waves coming out.
The sound waves coming from the front of the speaker extend out to the sides a bit and actually around the back of the speaker too. Some of this bounces off the TV, or the back wall, etc and blurrs imaging because they happen relatively close in time to the sound coming out from the speakers. At some distance the reflections change from smearing the initial sound to sounding more like ambiance but that's a different can of worms.Here's a test. Remove the TV and see if it improves. If not, you could have multiple problems other than having to turn to the "asylum". :)
