I used to have a 50" RPTV and as long as it was 1-2' back from the plane of the speakers I noticed no ill effects and no benefit from covering it. However, it did have a relatively flexible screen that may have actually absorbed a bit at lower frequencies. When it was replaced by a plasma, I noticed some degradation of the imaging, but I would still say I had a good center image.Dave
