220v Converter for UK sub......?

Hi,
If I got a UK sub that ran on 220v, could I simply get a (beefy) voltage converter (it has an amp inside obviously) for safe operation in the US?
There are many reasons why I am asking this. I know the alternatives and, yes, I know that I could get a Rel sub in the US.
Any sonic degradation.....?
Any issues with this?
