These "lies" as you call them are an extremely minor part of the entire Randi effort, miniscule. I have never seen him scientifically dishonest, and in his exposure of frauds and charlatans, he is doing a great service. Truly, there's a sucker born every minute. His challenges to people with dubious claims have always been carried out in a fair and scientific way, except that often the people involved really don't understand how science works at all and couldn't care less about what its methods can do. For these latter people there is little hope. They may vote for the party in power, they may contribute to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army- in short they may be upstanding citizens. But it is likely they will never understand one of the great triumphs of the human mind: the scientific method and how it works. And I fear these people are taking over. Our president is a good example. The fact that you have a stereo system at all is a direct result of scientific understanding, and the science underlying what your system really does is fully understood, believe it or not.jsm
