perhaps you should read the book, "Jennifer Government", a futuristic novel. In the future - marketing is everything so Nike wants to give some edge and street-cred to the launch of their new $100,000 tennis shoe. First, they tell the public it's in short supply, then leak out a few locations in shopping centers where it will be sold. Then they hire a couple of hit men to shoot a couple of the kids in line waiting to buy them. It works - sales of the shoe go through the roof because of all the danger now associated with them. Maybe cable manufacturers/repackagers should take a lesson from this...
