The original CD signal was band-limited when encoded. To restore its original acoustic features, it HAS to be likewise band-limited when decoded. The filter is only removing distortion added by the conversion.

Your not getting something for free here. If you own one of these distorting CD players, the only reason you don’t find it totally objectionable is because your ears can’t hear that high.

If you could lower your unfiltered DAC’s sampling rate to audio frequencies, you’d clearly understand why it needs to be filtered. It the most awful sounding distortion imaginable!

Maybe Audio Note engineers don’t know how to design adequate filters?
