As far as I know, the Nuvistor is no longer in production (by Raytheon or anyone else). My point was that IMO it is poor design practice to design a product based on a part that is obsolete and no longer in production. However, in audio marketing gimmicks have always been in vogue. Here is an article on Nuvistors for anyone interested. It is an interesting tube, designed at the end of the “tube era†just before everything started to migrate to solid state. It is a low noise triode that was originally designed for VHF/UHF TV tuners. I believe that the Nuvistor filled a gap in the miniaturization trend in that it was a miniature tube with good VHF characteristics and capable of implementing amplifiers with relatively low noise figures. At that time (early 60’s) transistors could not pull this off. The Nuvister represents an interesting (although short lived) milestone in the history of the Vacuum tube.
To me Mu-Fi's application of the Nuvistor in an audio product is more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. I suspect that there are other tubes (of the more traditional style) that would do just as good a job in an audio application and are in current production.
