Ten years ago, I bought Radio Shack's then top-of-the-line shortwave (DX-390) just out of curiousity.Shortwave is a strange mix of government broadcasters, religious evangelists, Ham radio operators, etc. Most broadcasters use English to reach the widest audience. It can be amusing to hear the news from the point of view of various governments.
Nowadays, I rarely listen to shortwave because the Internet is much more useful. Still, a good shortwave radio is a small investment. Be sure to get one with digital tuning, continuous coverage, and a BFO.
