Over at the headphone enthusiasts site head-fi.org , the stock iPod earbuds are considered to be okay, not the best but not crap. The performance of an earbud depends on how it fits to the size and shape of your ear, and it might just work out for you. You can also consider the optional $39 Apple In-Ear Headphones . They insert into the ear for better isolation and bass although they are not true ear canal phones like Etymotics.
