Don't you think it's more accurate to call good audio a BLEND of art and science (or technology), without one or the other predominating? I can think of several other areas of human endeavor in which the same skillful blend exists--musical instrument building, for example. Both elements are pretty much in balance in musical instruments and compliment each other, but if they get out of balance--such as the overly ornate instruments one sees in museums--then the functionality suffers--the instruments don't "sound good", or may not even sound at all.
