Listening can be scientific - it is the act of empirical data gathering, and a very important aspect of science. That any aspect of science is considered "objective" is an illusion constructed to relieve the scientist from the responsibility of his opinions. All of science depends upon the gathering of data by method (the method does not invent itself), the interpretation of data (data do not interpret themselves), and the assignment of meaning or meaningfulness.
It is the human mind and its reaction to the contrived methods and assigned meanings that makes all "scientific" study "subjective". Take the person out of the equation and just put in a computer? Who told the computer what to think? How to formulate and decode? Who designed the method, the program, the tools?
To call science objective is to deify it, for only G*d has the omniscience to be objective. Science IS Religeon, based upon a faith that its methods, interpretations, and meanings are infallible.
