Re: Why do most present-day audiophiles hate science?

When "science" is shoved down our throats as facts, we resent it.
I believe you are referring to the heated discussion you and I had over at Speaker Asylum in the Prelude MTS thread ?
Let me share something with you.
I build racing engines using a dynamometer to measure horsepower and torque, and a flow bench to measure cylinder head flow.
Us racing engine builders have an old saying.
"If it measures wrong, but goes faster, invent a new way to measure"
I dont hate science at all, when it produces good results.
I learned real fast that there is no substitute for testing my motors on the track, as well as a dynamometer.
I have had motors show ungodly torque, flow, and horsepower, and barely qualify for a race, and other motors show poorer torque curves, and a little less horsepower go out and run away from the pack.
Go figure ?
Just because you perceive that for some reason you THINK I hate Floyd Toole, you extrapolate that to mean all audiophiles hate science?
But, I ask you, is Floyd Toole REALLY science, REALLY ?
With all due respect, if you believe all the hype about him and his NRC cohorts, you would think they have re invented the freaking wheel or something?
Gimme a Break, Dude.
Most of the stuff they have"discovered" was known years ago.
To me, they are mostly just a bunch of marketing hype.
I had a pair of Electro Voice Interface D's in the early 70's, and I quote from the manual" the horizontal and vertical dispersion are the most uniform we have ever measured in our Anechoic chamber"
Uniform off axis dispersion, low distortion, flat amplitude response, etc, were well known WAY before these Canadiens stole the limelight with their NRC hype.
Did you know that Floyd Toole is an ABX proponet, and he thinks all amps sound the same too ?
That he advocates the use of tone controls, designs speakers, the Intermezzo 2.6 for example, with a freaking equalizer on the mid range driver?
And you call that science ?
No thank you.
That he has a so called scientific trained listening panel that is supposed to do fair comparasions of speakers, and they rig the test ?
Turning down the bass of the IL60 so it stops beating the Mighty Prelude MTS in testing, is like me comparing two of my racing engines, and freaking pulling a plug wire off on one motor, and you want me to support THAT kind of science?
God forbid.
