General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

Not a straw man at all.

"They propose that some one or other asserts that everything relevant is known about what is audible, for example, simply because they ask that assertions of some differences be proven: between interconnects, comparable speaker cables, power cords, CDPs, amplifiers, preamps, etc. No one has actually been able to point out someone who proposes that, but we have seen several remarks in this thread proposing this straw man."

It does not have to be stated, it is implied in the desire to measure differences.

A proof must, by definition, reference an established set of facts. Asking that assertions of differences be proven assumes the technical ability for such proof exists. This is an equivocation of existance/non-existance to current technological ability.

And again, the differences we are speaking of are, at the point of origin, differences in personal reports of internal experiences, not differences in measured paramters. We are seeking to correlate the former to the latter. The disire/expectaton is that such a correlation will somehow validate the original reported differences. What then of a non-correlation? The expectation here is that non-correlation will mean a non-physical/temporal origin of the perceived differences. This is the leap of faith. A currently achievable meaurement is the guage by which we will validate a reported preception. I suppose some one may have an open enough mind to say the non-correlation may mean we are measuring the wrong thing and seek to correlate some other paramater, but the history of this onjective/subjective debate does not bear this out.
