Melos/Bryston marriage gives birth to...hiss??

Hi folks. Perhaps someone could suggest a solution for a hiss problem I am having. Just installed a new Bryston 3B ST in my system, paired with a Melos SHA Gold preamp. There is a constant hiss in the system which stays the same regardless of volume level (doesn't increase) or source selection. It is, however, quite audible & obviously a bit disconcerting. The Bryston & Melos are connected via the Bryston's RCA inputs & the Melos' active RCA outputs. The Melos is a recent purchase as well & should be in good shape - it was just checked out by Melos Restoration.
I am not a tube guru & I am wondering if the hiss could be tube related. I am also wondering if the balanced connections would mitigate the problem - I do not currently own any XLR cables with which to experiment. The Melos also has passive RCA outputs but I don't know if that would make a difference either.
Would really appreciate any suggestions or input. BTW, aside from the hiss problem the combo really sings beautifully together. All the more reason the hiss has me gritting my teeth.
