Here's one change I've observed: the accumulation of dust/dirt/salts from the environment can lead to small leakage currents. This can cause problems at high-impedence/high gain points in the circuit. I've had a phono preamplifier (of my design) develop DC offsets, and the muting circuit in a cassette deck fail due to leakage. In both cases, the problem took 10-20 years to develop.
