We must agree to disagree

Hi chiggy,

I have to say I just don't agree at all. At this point it doesn't seem like either of us is going to "convince" the other.

I have made enough sound recordings to know which microphone techniques capture the spatial information of a sonic event and which ones don't. If a re-arrangement of microphones changes the perception of space during playback, I'm convinced the spatial information (or its absence) is a function of the recording. If I now believe I have a recording containing spatial information and some systems allow me to hear it and others don't, I'm convinced the ability to reveal what is on the recording is a characteristic of the system.

It seems clear to me your perceptions of these things are different from mine. But if all this information is being synthesized in the brain of the listener, what need is there for better recordings or better equipment. From my view, you're painting yourself into a philosophical corner but then again, it seems you believe the same about what I'm saying. Oh well.

Happy Listening!
Barry
