I totally agree that the cost of the parts have relatively little to do with the final quality of the complete system. Should one consider the price paid for a second-hand item or the price when new? Also, the exact same system with a mix of European and American parts would/could have very different distribution of money spent depending on whether the system was bought in Europe or in the States, does that make one of the systems more or less balanced?
For what it is worth, my system (as it stands at the moment in the midst of what seems like a constant upgrade...) has the following breakdown:
Prices paid (speakers second-hand):
Analogue source: 11%
Digital source: 10%
Amp: 21%
Speakers: 55%
Cables: 3%Prices when new (assuming no devaluation since -94):
Analogue source: 4%
Digital source: 4%
Amp: 7%
Speakers: 84%
Cables: 1%Yes,I recently upgraded my speakers. Yes, I took a big step up, sound-wise and cost-wise!
Happy listening,
mikke
