Needs an amp big time. You might peruse the HeadFi.org forum for all kinds of good information on headphones.I am using a Wheatfield HA-1 tube headphone amp ($529), which doubles as a tube preamp too, which is very good. The Antique Sound Labs MG Head and EarMax Pro tube amps are often suggested as good options for use with the HD600's.
