Re: Those boring, boring, boring insurance guys

Victor--thanks for your comments and concerns. Let's clear the air.

No I did not talk to Sony. Talking to them is not exactly like talking to someone at BAT ( if you know what I mean ).

I mentioned that with a VOM the two different powercord orientations offered only a couple of tenths of a volt difference. If the neutral was shunted to ground and I suddenly made it hot--I should see 120 volts at the chassis--which I did not.

The Sony has no internal fuse and I am not using a powerline conditioner with a transformer, etc. Prior to doing anything I did check continuity with a VOM. The Sony does use a -3- wire IEC and cord. First the chassis is grounded. I did see continuity between the ground prong of the IEC and all chassis ground points. There was no continuity between those chassis points and either the hot or neutral prongs of the IEC. This tells me that the neutral is not tied to ground. Therefore switching polarity would not load the chassis with voltage.

I made the 180 polarity flip inside the aftermarket powercord--which I have identified on the cord and it is easily reversible. My approach maintains the integrity of the 3rd wire ground. I made no changes in the Sony ---so if I ever sold it the new owner would not be compromised.

I would never do anything to compromise the safety of my family-my friends or myself. Thanks again for your comments.
